Q is a mischievous godlike being existing outside reality as we understand it. Because of its trans-dimensional nature, it’s difficult to say whether it’s one individual or an entire species. While its motives are unclear, it seems to have developed a keen interest in humanity – and particularly certain StarFleet captains – during the Enterprise D’s mission to FarPoint Station.
