“Spartans never die, they’re just missing in action.” Created in 2517, the SPARTAN-II Program was an effort to produce elite soldiers through mechanical and biological augmentation. Though admittedly, its origins are mired in controversy, it goes without saying that without the Spartans humanity would have surely faced extinction at the hands of the genocidal Covenant.
