While the RX-78-2 Gundam would become the quintessential Gundam, other Gundams would be developed in the latter months of the First Zeon War. One such Gundam was the RX-79 [G] Gundam Ground Type, a limited production Gundam designed for ground combat. Built out of surplus parts for the RX-78, the Gundam Ground Types would be assigned to newly established mobile suit units, such as the 08th MS Team in Southeast Asia.
