With the New Republic still struggling to recover from the Thrawn campaign, the Imperial remnants, reunified under the reborn Emperor Palpatine, launched Operation Shadow Hand, a series of campaigns to destroy the New Republic and restore the Galactic Empire. Faced with relentless assault after relentless assault from what would be known as the Dark Empire, the New Republic was forced to go on the run, trying to survive long enough to defeat Palpatine once and for all.
