For decades, the First Order, a successor regime formed by Imperials who fled to the Unknown Regions after the fall of the Empire, had spent years building up its forces for a massive campaign to conquer the galaxy and restore the old Empire to glory. While Leia Organa’s Resistance did what they could to oppose the First Order, the New Republic essentially ignored them. As far as the galaxy was concerned, the First Order was a pale reflection of the old Empire.
Everything changed when the First Order unleashed a horrific super weapon known as Starkiller Base, wiping out not only the New Republic government on its capital world Hosnian Prime, but also the entire system and much of its core defense forces. Fearing other systems could be next, the Resistance launched a desperate offensive to destroy Starkiller Base before it could destroy the Resistance headquarters on D’Qar.
The Battle of Starkiller Base, as it would be called, was simply the beginning of a new devastating conflict known as the First Order Wars.
